Minimally Invasive Procedure Gives Promise of Healthier Life for Lubbockites

A new procedure has emerged in medical weight-loss surgery, and can be found right in West Texas’ own backyard. David Hall, M.D. is leading the way with this procedure, offering patients a healthier future and a sure win against the battle of the bulge.

Hall explained Laparoscopic Gastric Banding, or lap-banding, as a minimally invasive surgical procedure that requires only a few small incisions to be made. An adjustable silicone ring is then placed around the upper part of the stomach, limiting the amount of food a person can eat. With fewer side effects, and quicker recovery from what people know as stomach stapling – or gastric bypass – lap band procedures are offered in Lubbock by Hall.

One of Hall’s recent patients, Veronica Robles, was faced with the same choice of what diet to choose next before thinking of turning to lap-banding as a more viable option. Prior to the surgery, Robles was diagnosed as pre-diabetic with hypothyroidism and pre-hypertension. Hall said she was doubling her life with all the extra weight she was carrying.
Robles had the lab-banding procedure done last February and already has lost more than 60 pounds; putting her half-way to reaching her total weight loss goal. She now has more energy for her two children and is even sharing clothes with her 11-year-old daughter, Jade. Robles said the lap-banding surgery is a lifestyle change and to be successful, you have to have that mindset.

“I have always been, like they say, the chubby child,” Robles said. “I now feel like a brand new person.”
